JOMADS take Austin

Austin, aside from being the capital of Texas is also known as the live music capital of the World. From Austin City Limits in the fall, to South by Southwest and everything in between, there is never a shortage of things to do or places to go in this city. Food and music in Austin go hand-in-hand and there are so many up and coming, trendy places to go, South Congress being one of my favorites. In choosing a college to attend, I was looking for a school with both campus life and city life. I can honestly say as a senior at the University of Texas at Austin this school and city are the best of both worlds.

One thing I love must about Austin is brunch every weekend, no excuses. For a very “Austin-y” experience my friends and I go to the South Congress Hotel to Café No Sé, the food is great and the vibes are even better. My personal favorite is Josephine House. This restaurant is located in a little house and has everything from Burrata with honey and apples, to pancakes, to breakfast burgers, you name it. The charm, alone, that Josephine House has is worth a visit, and an Insta. Other great places to go with a group are Trace at the W ($1 mimosas on the weekends) and Hillside Farmacy, another trendy spot that is an old pharmacy-turned restaurant.

Hopdoddy is a must whether it be for lunch or dinner, for the best burgers in Austin. Even as a vegetarian it may be one of my favorite go-to spots. You must get the nutella pretzel milkshake! If you’re hanging out closer to campus, try Fricano’s for great sandwiches or Torchy’s Tacos for the best queso in Austin.

Where do I begin? If you like sushi, Uchi or its sister restaurant Uchiko is definitely recommended. It’s been rated one of the best restaurants in the country and that is not a lie. Another favorite of mine is Jeffrey’s, sister restaurant to Josephine House, located in Clarksville, a little area downtown. It has a similar idea, in a dim lit, intimate atmosphere with an impeccable menu. The list goes on.

Dirty 6th Street
-You have to experience it just once. The street is closed off to traffic and you go from one bar to the next and end the night with a slice of Roppolo’s Pizza.
West 6th Street-Pop, Rustic Tap, Rio, Ranch and Green Light Social
Rainey Street-Every single bar on this street-this is obligatory! My favorites on Rainey include Unbarlievable (it’s circus themed and even as a slide!), Lustre Pearl-you have to get a Lustre Lemonade, Banger’s Sausage & Beer Garden, and the Container Bar-get the “Painkiller”!
